Winners of all-Russian contest Russia Through the Eyes of Drones have been decided

The results of the largescale all-Russian contest «Russia through the Eyes of Drones» have been summarized. The purpose of the contest was popularization of video content filming using de-man-rated technologies: drones and quadcopters. 15 participants were qualified for the final. The contest aroused wide public response: the participants were invited to on-air programs of  regional television channels; appeals to support certain participants were published in the press and social networks. For three months the Russians were following the results of the contest and the most active ones voted on dron.tricolor.tv. The official awarding ceremony took place on March 15, 2017 within the SMIT Exhibition of High Technologies.

The contest started on December 1, 2016 and took place in two stages. Till the end of January 2017 the participants sent their projects to Tricolor TV and the viewers extensively voted for them on dron.tricolor.tv. Over 200 projects were presented: by means of drones and quadcopters the participants pictorialized splendid views of Russia from Kaliningrad to the Far East and from Arkhangelsk to the Chechen Republic. Owing to the wide coverage of the contest over 300,000 viewers visited the website to see the participants’ video works and to cast their vote for the video they liked the best.

On February 1, 2017 the results of the first stage of the contest were summarized. 15 projects were qualified for the final: the winners of each of the eight contest weeks which were aired in news programs of the federal Life television channel and Tricolor TV Infochannel, five projects which got the maximum votes by the results of the viewers’ voting on dron.tricolor.tv as well as two projects selected by the expert jury of the contest organizers.

The second stage of the contest took place from 1 February to 1 March 2017, and three winners whose projects had the maximum votes were decided by the results of this stage. On March 17, 2017 the official awarding ceremony of the Russia Through the Eyes of Drones contest was held within the SMIT Exhibition of High Technologies.

The first place was taken by the project of Grigory Kolodyazhny (Pyatigorsk). Tricolor TV granted the winner with a certificate for the trip to the Seoul Drone Race World Cup, international drone-racing championship that is to be held on May 19-21, 2017 in Seoul.

Pavel Bukharin (Izhevsk) obtained the second place and got a prize from the Assistance to Development and Use of Navigation Technologies Nonprofit Partnership: a drone made by one of the best producers of remotely piloted devices.

The third place was taken by Stanislav Navoev (Kostroma). Representatives of Life television channel awarded the winner with the latest model of popular smartphone.

Launching this contest we wanted to demonstrate the diversity and beauty of our homeland, to show that due to the modern technologies everybody can film beautiful and high-quality content. One of the key competences of Tricolor TV is introduction and scaling of modern digital technologies. The operator has conducted the so-called «technological revolution» on the Pay TV market turning HDTV and Ultra HD format television from a premium service into a product accessible for gross audience. Therefore, as the market leader Tricolor TV primarily focuses on popularization of modern technologies improving the quality of TV viewing in Russia. By means of drones and quadcopters one can create unique and high-quality content, including making video from the previously inaccessible perspectives. The works of some participants of our contest have already been shown on television on the air of federal Life television channel and on Tricolor TV Infochannel. We hope that it will inspire televiewers and industry representatives to use the achievements of modern technologies, drones in particular, and to make their contribution to development of television.

The use of the latest technologies for content creation is extremely important for the present mass media, and LIFE is no exception in this case. Our correspondents use drones massively for the most true and objective news coverage. Launching Russia Through the Eyes of Drones project together with Tricolor TV and GLONASS Union we longed for drawing special attention of the television channel audience to application of advanced technologies in everyday life. The quality of the participants’ projects has exceeded our expectations: many of them were made by real professionals. Apart from that, we set the task to familiarize the audience with our lifecore mobile application which enables everybody to become a citizen journalist of LIFE. We hope that this project will attract still higher attention to active use of modern filming technologies in everyday life.

The organizers of the project were Tricolor TV, the major Russian operator of digital television, Assistance to Development and Use of Navigation Technologies Nonprofit Partnership and Life television channel.

The use of drones to create interesting and high-quality video content is a new and promising line of activities for the television industry. Since the early 2016 Russia has been actively involved in creation of the national rules of using remotely piloted aviation systems (RPAS).
