From SashaTanya to Cold Pursuit: what movies and TV series are most often watched by residents of the Northwestern region

Tricolor analysts have studied viewer preferences in the first half of 2022 and found out what content is favored by residents of the Northwestern region.

Of all the variety of television content, 44 % of residents of the Northwestern Federal District choose movies and TV series. Most often viewers preferred comedies, sci-fi and horror. Despite the fact that film companies deliver fresh premieres to TV channels almost every month, Tricolor customers in the Northwestern region have a high demand for content that has been on TV for literal decades.

Among the TV series in January-May 2022, the most popular were sitcoms “SashaTanya” (on air since 2013), “Univer” (on air since 2008), projects “The Secrecy of the investigation” (22nd season shooting now) and “Sea Devils” (17 seasons produced).

According to the results of the first half of the year, leaders of the feature films were the New Year classic “Home Alone 2”, Soviet comedy “The Caucasian Captive or the New Adventures of Shurik” by Leonid Gaidai, an American action film with elements of black comedy “Cold Pursuit”, a superhero movie with Chris Hemsworth “Thor: Ragnarok” and a 2017 horror film “Alien: Covenant”.

“In recent years, Tricolor has been actively launching channels of its own production, on which viewers can see their beloved national classics, long-playing series of different genres and modern hits. The data obtained by our analytical service shows that we have chosen the right vector of development. Moreover, we’ve recently made our content offer even more diverse by starting broadcasting two channels from Russia’s leading online movie theater START,” said Arsen Khomutov, Tricolor Content Director.
