Official Announcement: Tricolor Stops Broadcasting of Gazprom-Media Holding Channels
On February 1, 2021, Gazprom-Media Holding announced termination of cooperation with Tricolor multiplatform operator in terms of video content supply within Red Media Television Company distribution package. From its part, Tricolor considers it possible to continue negotiations, yet on mutually beneficial terms.
“Tricolor cares for its clients, and is unwilling to put up with continuous content costs increase offered by holdings having the monopolistic content distribution rights. This is our principled position, and we keep communicating this to the monopolists.
Since 2016, Red Media (Gazprom-Media Holding) contract value has doubled. At the same time, they are trying to oblige us to purchase, along with sports television channels of social importance, extra commercial channels which, judging by our television surveys, are of no interest to Tricolor audience. We have repeatedly pointed out to our Red Media partners that such distribution format for the content of social importance is unacceptable.
Over the past three years, Tricolor has not raised tariffs for its basic services, and is not ready to raise the cost for the basic package just because of the monopolists' cravings running high. Tricolor intends to continue offering its customers balanced channel packages for affordable prices. We have not revoked our commercial proposal to Gazprom-Media Holding, and therefore we deem we are still negotiating in good faith on the commercial issues, intending to proceed with broadcasting sports content produced by Gazprom-Media Holding,” – commented Nikolay Orlov, Deputy Director General for Tricolor Content Policy.
