Top Global Hits Coming in Tricolor: Digital Media Operator Announces Major Licensing Deal with ViacomCBS
Clients of Tricolor will see top global hits from Paramount Pictures, including films in Ultra HD, via Tricolor’s own broadcast television network.
Tricolor announced today that it has agreed to a major licensing deal with ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group, which gives the operator rights to broadcast over 120 films from Paramount Pictures’ vast library. Among the titles included in the deal are recent global releases such as A Quiet Place, Rocketman, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Gemini Man, Wonder Park, as well as fan favorites like the Transformers films.
Clients of Tricolor will be able to enjoy Paramount Pictures’ films on Tricolor’s own channels. The studio granted the operator rights to broadcast films not only via the satellite, but also simultaneously via the internet. Some of that content will be shown on Tricolor’s UHD channel Cinema UHD where the viewers can enjoy ultra high-definition entertainment from their homes and computers. In particular, the digital operator will use UHD to broadcast such global hits as XXX: Return of Xander Cage, World War Z, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Star Trek Beyond and many others.
“This new deal for Paramount Pictures films makes our content offer for clients even more diverse. Movies from one of the world's leading studios will allow us to increase the audience of our own channels; it is especially important for Tricolor, since we are now focusing on niche channels” said Arsen Khomutov, Content Director for Tricolor.
“We are delighted to be extending our relationship with Tricolor with this new agreement and look forward to bringing some of our most popular and exciting films to Tricolor’s many subscribers,” said Lisa Kramer, executive vice president, International Television Licensing, ViacomCBS.
Cooperation between Tricolor and Paramount Pictures has successfully lasted for several years. Most recently, in December 2019 the operator signed a deal with the studio for over 100 films to be shown via subscription video-on-demand on Tricolor’s own online cinema platform, with limited exclusivity for certain movies, among them Bumblebee, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Instant Family, Pet Sematary and others.
Tricolor is a multi-platform digital media operator that provides a wide range of digital services, including television broadcast throughout Russia. Tricolor creates a single family-friendly information space for entertainment and services, accessible from any device, place and time. Apart from traditional satellite TV, Tricolor clients can use an Internet connection to watch TV channels, and have option of controlling the broadcast: “CatchUp”, “StartOver”. By the end of 2019, the total operator’s client base had over 12.230 million users, including 10 million HDTV subscribers, more than 125 thousand UHD clients and 1.2 million Internet viewers. Tricolor is No.1 among pay-TV operators in Eastern Europe by the number of clients.
