Tricolor Summarized the Results of Work in 2021

The company has proved its leading positions in the market of subscription-based television and continued to develop its online service — Tricolor Movies and TV — actively by enriching its content and massive accessibility.

Client Base Data

Following the results of 2021, Tricolor has increased the client base up to 12.261 mln users. The HD client base has grown fr om 10.3 mln to 10.4 mln within a year.

Tricolor pays special attention to development of ultra-high-definition television. The number of Ultra HD subscribers has increased almost three fold within a year to reach the mark of 681,000 people with an access to 10 channels in the 4K format.

More and more viewers choose the operator’s online service — the number of unique users of Tricolor Movies and TV at the end of 2021 amounted to 1.7 mln. About 14 % of satellite TV clients have used Tricolor’s streaming services which is twice as much as in 2020. The growing share of OTT users within the base has strengthened Tricolor’s positions in the market of online services.

Tricolor maintains leadership by the number of clients for subscription-based TV. However, the operator doesn’t count on satellite TV exclusively anymore developing additional services actively and creating its own ecosystem instead.

A great interest in Tricolor Movies and TV accounts for continuous additions to the film library with novelties of Russian and foreign cinematography, including projects of AMEDIATEKA and PREMIER, leading Hollywood studios such as Walt Disney Pictures, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Television, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, New Regency, Lionsgate and others. As of now, the library of films and series includes more than 30,000 content items. The access to the online service is already included in the flagship service — Single Ultra Package.

“Tricolor Movies and TV is more than a classic online movie theater. Essentially, the company has managed to offer Internet users almost the same set of channels as the satellite. It should be noted that no one in our country has ever made such an offer in our market before Tricolor. Along with Kinopoisk, IVI and Okko, the operator’s online service is included in the list of top video services by the quality of movie content. Considering the multi-million client base of Tricolor satellite TV — people that can use the online service without extra charges — the operator has everything to become one of leaders by the number of online users”, says Denis Kuskov, CEO of Telecom Daily Information Analysis Agency.

Channels and TV Audience

At the end of 2021, the operator has 281 channels in total, including 24 channels of its own production and three of them — dedicated to sports: Football, Hockey and Sports. Sport channels are a part of Tricolor’s new Our Sport Project that was launched last year in March and was aimed at support and popularization of the entire Russian sport, including niche sport. Tricolor broadcasts games of National Football League, Junior Hockey League, Women’s Football League, MMA and boxing tournaments and many other games that haven’t been included in the broadcast schedule of federal channels.

A share of Tricolor’s own channels in the gross share has amounted to 12 %. A share of these channels in the online service for these channels is 13.6 %.

The online project called Bolshoy Efir (‘Big Broadcast’) was marked with two significant TV shows of its own last year. All-Russian League of Humor is a contest where 315 stand-up comedians from 30 Russian cities compete for the title of the Best Stand-Upper in Russia and the first prize of 1 million rubles.

In the new TV project Under Tricolor’s Protection lawyers with many years of experience help actual people that have found themselves in a difficult situation to solve their problems and to reach the court if necessary.

Additional Services

Tricolor continues to connect the Russian residents to the satellite Internet — this project of the operator has turned 5 years. A high speed of up to 100 Mb/s, unlimited tariffs, wide availability in terms of prices and the coverage from Kaliningrad to Irkutsk are the main benefits of the service that have allowed to grow the client base by 35 % within a year.

In autumn 2021, the Tricolor CCTV Monitoring service became available for the operator’s clients with the receiving equipment connected to the Internet. Therefore, service users received an opportunity to watch the footage from street or in-house cameras not on their mobile devices only, but on a large screen as well.

Partner and Social Projects

Tricolor pays special attention to social and inclusive initiatives. In October the library of the operator’s online service was completed with four children’s animated series with audio description — a laconic description of an item, space or action that are incomprehensible for blind (optically challenged) people without special verbal explanations.

In June, Tricolor launched its own loyalty program that became a result of development of Tricolor Bonus Program. While previously operator’s clients could receive only free bonuses from Tricolor’s partners on bonus.tricolor.tv, after the update there have become much more options: for various desired actions the clients are allocated points they can exchange, for instance, into the subscription or purchase of a film through the online service.

Promotional Events

As per tradition, Tricolor finished the year with presents for customers — in December, two largescale initiatives were launched by the operator: “Watch until Subscription!” wh ere operator’s clients could get up to three months of a free subscription for the core service, and “New Year Tariff 2022” with a reduced price for the annual subscription for one of the main channel packages and 100 % cashback with points within the Tricolor Loyalty Program.

Plans for 2022

Tricolor will continue to implement the project on eco-friendly disposal of receiving equipment. As early as in 2012, the operator was the first in Russia to launch the trade-in program in the framework of high-definition television development. Due to this program there are favorable conditions for clients to replace their receivers with the more advanced models that are HD and Ultra HD compliant. The outdated equipment received from clients is sent for recycling by the operator. Over the ten years of trade-in’s existence, more than 7 million receivers were recycled at the consumer electronics disposal enterprise.

Tricolor has declared 2022 the Year of Client. Convenient usage of equipment and services, comfortable service consumption and reception of quick and quality support from the operator are declared as one of the primary objectives of the company for the current year. Tricolor will continue to increase the level of customer service, to enrich the online service with content, including its own exclusive projects, and to develop additional services. In particular, the operator prepares an assistant application for satellite TV with a convenient TV guide across Tricolor channels and a special display of recommendations. In the framework of this project, receiving equipment voice control connected to the Internet is expected to appear by the end of the year which will allow reducing the usage of a remote to the minimum while watching TV.

Tricolor is a multiplatform operator that develops a shared information space of entertainment and services for the entire family accessible from any device, anywhere, anytime. Along with TV that can be watched both via the satellite and in the Internet, the operator offers its clients cutting-edge digital services including online services, smart houses, CCTV monitoring and satellite Internet. Following the results of 2021, the total base of Tricolor amounted to 12.261 mln households, including over 10.4 mln. clients that use the HD compliant equipment. The company has over 681,000 clients of 4K, and the number of unique users of the Tricolor Movies and TV online service is 1.7 mln.
