Tricolor TV sums up results of 2014
The largest Russian Pay TV operator Tricolor TV has summed up results of its work in 2014. The provider has increased its proceeds by 28%, connected almost one million and a half new subscribers, launched large-scale broadcasting on the territory of Siberia, the Urals and a part of the Far East, presented the subscribers the accounting policy corresponding to the world standards and offered a new format of TV viewing.
In 2014 increase of the subscribers’ base continued, and growth of HD TV viewing of Tricolor TV exceeded the figures of previous periods. Thus, the total number of new connections was 1 400 000 subscribers, the active base of the operator reached the level of 10 919 000 viewers, and the number of subscribers of high definition television grew by 45%.
Indicators of the subscribers’ base were calculated in accordance with the new accounting policy approved by the operator on 1 January 2015. According to the international standards, the persons having valid paid subscription for the operator’s main service are recognized as subscribes of Tricolor TV.
Marketing policy and introduction of new services allow Tricolor TV not only to retain the high level of subscribers’ loyalty, but also to remain one of the market operators with the most stable development. Thus, ARPU increase was 24% as compared with the figure of the last year — 998 Roubles against 805 Roubles in 2013. The annual proceeds have increased by 28% — up to 10.4 bln Roubles.
Tricolor TV is an absolute leader of high definition television. All new subscribers of Tricolor TV have access to the most modern standard of television — HDTV. By results of 2014, 4 550 000 subscribers pay for the operator’s services which give the possibility to view TV channels in the HD format. 25 HD channels and over 140 SD channels are included into the main service. The share of HD subscribers out of the total base of the operator has increased from 30.6% up to 41.2%.
High growth rate of the number of HD subscribers is connected, inter alia, with the large-scale program of equipment exchange implemented jointly with the operator’s technology partner. Within the program, the users are granted special conditions of exchange of earlier models for the receivers supporting HDTV. When passing to the new format of TV viewing, the operator provides transfer of the subscriptions which were paid earlier.
In 2014 Tricolor TV launched a number of new projects. Thus, in spring 2014 the entire complex of services of «Tricolor TV», including high definition television, became available for residents of Siberia, a part of the territory of the Urals and the Far East. On 22 October Tricolor TV began regular broadcasting of the TV channel in the ULTRA HD format for the first time in Russia.
Last year the operator introduced a number of services which qualitatively change the possibilities of TV viewing. In June Tricolor TV launched «Multiroom» service. Its main advantage is the possibility to view any paid packages on two screens. Within 7 months of 2014, from beginning of the service provision, about 50% of new connections were the connections to the system giving access to this service.
On 19 November 2014 Tricolor TV presented five mobile applications for comfortable TV viewing in the Pay TV market. For instance, «Play. Tricolor» application allows a subscriber to view TV channels of both the main and additional packages on a mobile device within the households. All applications were presented for the first time on «TELEPLANSHET «Tricolor TV». At the moment, already over 100 thousand of such devices have been connected. Development in this direction is priority of the company, in particular, in December a competition for developers of mobile applications started. In the course of the competition, the participants will propose original concepts of applications for smartphones and tablets on Android platform. The winner of the competition will be given a grant for further developments.
Thanks to the huge subscribers’ base of Tricolor TV and the technologies used, all new trends in the market, as earlier HDTV, and now «second screen» services and mobile TV viewing are becoming the mass ones.
